Could I catch a pass from Peyton Manning?

Jon Shaw—a scout from the Colts—came out to Duluth today to put me through a workout. The plan was to do much of the same things that I did at my pro day a couple weeks ago.

I went to dinner with Jon last night, and he was cool guy so that was nice. I stuffed my face with Texas Roadhouse and gained about 3 pounds in the process, haha. Totally worth it.

The workout today went fairly well. My numbers weren’t quite as good as the ones I put up at the pro day, but he was already aware of those previous results, so I think today was more about seeing me in person, watching how I move, and making sure my knee is healthy (no favoring, etc). It also didn’t help that it was very cold and windy outside, but that’s taken into account as well in their analysis of my performance.

One of my strengths as a running back and an important factor for a team like the Colts is my ability as a pass receiver. I did a decent job catching the ball today—had one uncharacteristic dropped pass, but whatevs.

Negatives from the workout were a couple of the position drills. I felt uncoordinated going through some unfamiliar bag drills, and I can’t imagine it looked much better than it felt. I didn’t have the muscle memory to flow through the drills without thinking, and that in turn makes for slower movements.

All in all, it was still a positive experience. Jon had a lot of good things to say about my ability on and off the field, so hopefully his opinions carry some weight when he reports back to his superiors.
