The beginning of the middle

Where to start?

This blog will probably be a place for me to give updates and to just say what’s on my mind. So let’s start with one of each.

Knee update:

I played 14 years of football without missing a start, only to have a torn meniscus end my college career halfway through my senior season. The rehab process has been looong and a LOT of work. It’s been over 4 months now rehabbing 5-6 days per week for 2-3 hours per day, so it’s commanded an outrageous amount of my time since the surgery.

Fortunately, I’m starting to see it all pay off. I’m jumping, cutting, and sprinting again with no pain. The knee itself feels great, so now it’s just a matter of trying to get all my strength and explosion back. My jumping was feeling pretty strong, so the other day I tested my vertical. I jumped 33”, which isn’t bad, but it’s a long ways from the 40.5” I was leaping in peak condition. I guess I still have a lot of work to do, but man it feels good to feel good.

On my mind: the future

People always say that college flew by. Not for me. I feel like I’ve been an undergrad FOREVER. So naturally I’m anxious to graduate, and I’m excited about taking the next step in my life. The problem is I don’t know what the next step has in store for me. I have a chance to fulfill my childhood dream of playing in the NFL, but will I make it? If I do, how long will it last? Will I get accepted to the grad schools I applied to? If so, where will I end up going?

The uncertainty is a little frustrating, especially being an organized plan-oriented person. All I really know is that things aren’t going to stay the same. Outside of that, it’s up in the air. Ultimately I’ll just have to do what I’ve been doing for the past few years anyway: work hard in every direction so that I’m ready for whatever door opens.
